Message I have had my personal motor after 70k and not nearly as meticulously assembled as I did Steve's, experience a great deal of detonation and dieseling as a turbo water hose gave out and drove 30 miles with no water and at one point having a clog in my fuel filter leaning me out to 17:1 and detonating like crazy... and when I recently pulled the motor apart, my bearing were still in decent condition (not the best, but oddly usable (i replaced them of course)) and my pistons had no issues aswell (granted, I was not running the power Steve "was").
As for Steve's crank, it was dry magged during the first part of the build, but not during the bearing check when the new fuel system was going in... possibly a wet mag or a zyglow would have given me a better heads up in the beginning, but at the time, I did not see that to be necessary (unfortunately, now, I may reconsider next time). The crank may have had issues, but as mentioned above, without tearing it all apart and thoroughly inspecting the components to pin point the cause, we may all just be speculating...
